Schedule of events may be found at the VI Centenial Transfer Commission website. March 31, 2017 will commemorate the 100 year anniversary of when the United States purchased the Danish West Indies from Denmark for twenty-five million dollars. Duty Free Shopping in Charlotte Amalie & Red Hook
Saint Thomas is home to world-class duty free shopping, much of it found in the town center of Charlotte Amalie. This is the hub of activity where cruise ships arrive in port and the Seaplane arrives and departs in the bay. Charlotte Amalie is located just eight miles from the resort. The picturesque town and harbor features historic Danish buildings that house local merchants offering everything from the finest jewelry, watches and artwork to cameras, china, crystal, alcohol and handcrafted items. Other popular Charlotte Amalie attractions include the city's art galleries and an historic synagogue.
The village of Red Hook located only a mile from the resort features many dining and bar options as well as duty-free shopping in a marina setting. The town overlooks Pillsbury Sound and has a full complement of gourmet grocery stores, boutiques, pharmacy, clinic and other primary services. Other popular St. Thomas shopping destinations include the Havensight Mall and the upscale Yacht Haven Grande.
Mahogany Run Golf Course is the island's only 18-hole championship golf course, and is located just 15 minutes from the resort. Golf Digest proclaimed the course an engineering marvel, as it had to be carved and blasted into an area of land less than 110 acres. Designed by George and Tom Fazio, Mahogany Run culminates in the spectacular "Devil's Triangle," the world renowned signature trio of the 13th, 14th and 15th holes on the Atlantic Ocean.
Lush botanical gardens pair with the West Indian architecture of the Greathouse on this 150-acre plantation occupying the volcanic peaks of St. Thomas. Guests at the St. Peter Mountain Greathouse & Botanical Gardens are invited to explore the ground’s streaming waterfalls, fish ponds, aviaries, and of course, lush tropical orchids, plants, and fruit trees.
This unique aquarium park features a variety of aquatic encounters, from sea lions to sponges. The Caribbean Reef gives you a close up view of life on a coral reef with sea anemones, sponges and conch. The Deep Reef Tank showcases predators such as sharks and eels. A glass underwater walkway takes visitors deep into the sea, and aquatic "petting zoos" are a favorite with children.
Magen’s Bay Beach
This north coast beach may be the most celebrated location on Saint Thomas. Known for its incredibly photogenic and swimmable waters, Magen’s Bay is a tourist favorite, so guests looking for a bit of privacy should try to visit in the early morning or late afternoon. Admission is $4 per person.
